ROYAL
CHITWAN NATIONAL PARK:
|
Royal Chitwan National park is Nepal’s most reknown
and easily accessible national park in Nepal. It was established
in 1962 by late King Mahendra as a rhinoceros preservation
and officially gazatted in 1973 to enforce laws against
poaching. Tt is situated in the Rapti valley about 120km
south west of Kathmandu. It covers an area of 932 square
kilometers of flood plain jungle and elephant grass at
an elevation of about 150 meters above the sea level.

There are
many resorts inside and outside the national park well
trained naturalist lead visitors in safaris (by foot,
elephant, land rover or boat) to search for tigers, rhinos,
crocodiles and colorful bird life. There is elephant breeding
centre near by national park. |
The Bengal tiger and the great one horned rhino, both
of them daggered species are the “stars of the show”
at royal chitwan national park. About 200 bangel tigers
live in Nepal, among them estimated 40 of them are in
this national park.
There are around 700 great one horned rhinos. The main
attraction of jungle safari in royal chitwan national
park are gharial(a fish eating crocodile), leopards gaurs,
buffaloes, sloth bears, wild boars, various species of
deer and marsh mugger crocodiles, smaller mongooses, jackals,
otters, martens, porcupines and squirrels.
River dwellers includes gangetic dolphin, pangolin, rattle,
python, king cobra and Bengal florican. More then 400
species of birds have been making chitwan as a paradise
for bird-watching. |

| In the eastern
terai of Nepal, there is another destination for safari;
Koshi Tappu is home to a rare herd of 65 wild buffaloes
and thousands of migratory birds. This is a suitable site
for bird-watchers. |

| ROYAL
BARDIA NATIONAL PARK: |
|
| In the western terai
of Nepal, Royal Bardia National Park is situated. It comprises
368 square kilometers of riverine terrain at the foot
of the sal-forested Siwalik Hills. The attraction of this
park is thirty-two species of mammals, including Nepal’s
second largest tiger population and 250 varieties of birds.
There are few resorts, having different program for jungle
safari. |
